Conservation Tip

Appliances account for about 13 percent of your home’s energy use. If they have energy-saving settings, use them! If they’re nearing voting age, consider replacing them with a new, energy-efficient model. And remember to try smart power strips for smaller appliances and electronics that continue to draw power even when turned off. For more tips, visit EnergySavers.gov. Energy Efficiency Loans

The Neighborhood Energy Connection has partnered with the Minnesota Housing Financing Agency to bring Minnesotans a new way to finance energy improvements to their homes. It's called the Minnesota Energy Loan.

The loans will be made through the Fix-Up Fund, a statewide program that offers affordable, low-interest fixed-rate loans for homeowners seeking cost-effective and energy-efficient improvements. You may also visit the Neighborhood Energy Connection for more information about the Minnesota Energy Loan program.

After doing an energy audit on their home, interested homeowners can then apply for the loans directly through a Fix-Up Fund lender. Lake Country Power has organized a local lender list of lenders within the co-op's service area, or you may visit the Minnesota Housing Financing Agency site.

Another resource for home energy loan programs exists through DSIRE, which is short for Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency. Residential loans are available for efficient water heaters, furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, building insulation, windows, doors and other custom projects. Visit DSIRE to learn more and research your options.

Planning a "Green" Building?

State and federal financial incentives are also available if you plan to "go green" by building with energy efficiency in mind. You'll find more loan information on the Good to Be Green site.
