Wait 'Til Late

Save Energy and Money when You Wait 'Til Late

Summertime is great for lots of things – but not for power costs. In fact, the price we pay for wholesale power is more than double during the summer than other months of the year.

That means we all pay more.

Fortunately, there is something we can do about it. On very hot and humid days during June, July and August when energy use is highest, we’ll issue a Wait ‘Til Late conservation advisory on area radio stations. When you hear this announcement (averages 12 days per summer), simply wait to use major appliances and be especially conservative with energy between noon and 10:00 p.m., when demand typically falls.

Wait ‘til Late tips include:

  • If you do not participate in a special air conditioning program (cycled air conditioning®), set your air conditioner to 78 degrees or higher when a Wait ‘til Late advisory is in effect.
  • Delay running the dishwasher.
  • Delay washing clothes until after 10:00 p.m.
  • Choose meals that don’t contribute additional heat to the home.
  • Turn off excess lights and draw curtains and draperies closed.
  • Purchase energy-efficient ENERGY STAR appliances for your home, farm or business. Ask if Lake Country Power has rebates available.
  • Sign up for money saving energy management programs, better known as Energy Wise® programs, offered by your cooperative.

If we all work together, our wholesale power supplier, Great River Energy, won’t need to purchase expensive power on the open market or generate extra energy during expensive peak times. And that keeps prices lower for you.

We know it’s hot, but if we can just wait until after 10 o’clock, our bills will be lower and we’ll have conserved energy.
